Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
Today, we were feeling a bit under the weather so we decided to drop by ICA Maxi and buy 2 kilos of fresh oranges. We used Skantic Juice Presser (BJU-200) that we bought from Netonnet a couple of years ago so we can drink the juice instead. There is almost no information online about this machine since they do not sell this model anymore. I guess we were just lucky enough to have bought it at the right time back then. This juice presser is always perfect for making fresh orange juice to drink during breakfast, which gives you that burst of Vitamin C your body needs just to get the day going.
After drinking an entire glass of our freshly pressed orange juice, I came across an article on fatsecret.com stating that 1 cup of this fruit juice contains 112 calories. We are not really the type to count calories, but I got curious and just thought we'd mention that anyway. For us, drinking freshly squeezed orange juice is just about what we could ask for to start the day right when one starts to feel sick.
I continued to search for articles about freshly squeezed orange juice, and came across another one from www.dailymail.co.uk, a post specifying that "Just one glass of orange juice a day could increase risk of diabetes". Yes, that is actually the title of the article. Apparently, "Research shows that fruit juices, regarded by many as a healthy way to start the day, raise the odds of a form of diabetes linked to poor diet and obesity by up to a quarter. Eating whole pieces of fruit however, cuts the likelihood of developing the disease..."
Now, I am not entirely sure if this article meant freshly-squeezed orange juice or bottled/packed orange juice you buy from the grocery, but maybe I will try to eat the oranges instead of turning them into juice tomorrow.
Don't forget to drink your freshly-squeezed orange juice within an hour. It starts to taste sour after awhile, even if you put it on ice.
